NTMMA MMA Team Record: 49-8
(The best MMA Team record in the DFW Metroplex)

Owner and coach Tery Corkran has operated his North Texas MMA school since 1998, and has consistently been turning out champions.  Tery Corkran is a life long resident of Lewisville/Flower Mound and has many professional accolades.

Tery Corkran is currently a 3rd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under the World Famous Carlos Machado, A student of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kun Do & a Black belt in Japanese Jujitsu

Tery Corkran
  • Former TACKA kickboxing champion in 1991 – 1993
  • Received BJJ Black Belt from Carlos Machado 10/2002
  • Member of the Denton County Knife Fighters Association
  • Three time BJJ Pan American Gold Medalist
  • Three time World Arm Wrestling Champion
  • Mr. Corkran was the first school to teach and have a full curriculum MMA school in the state of Texas teaching to kids and adults and is a proud Winner of the Lewisville Mayor's Children’s Empowerment Award.

The fight team's five year record of 49-8 is the best average in the state, and is representative of the hard work and level of intense training that is required to become an NTMMA fighter.  This work ethic has served all our fighters well, not just in the cage or ring but in their lives also.  All of our fighters have careers outside of the cage such as gym owners, school teachers, military members, college students, and corporate security. At North Texas MMA we have a new six-sided cage, a new 18X18 boxing ring, free weights, a dozen heavy bags, pads, mitts, and lots more to make us one of the most complete gyms in DFW.  Instructors are well rounded and proven in competition.  We show our professionalism and dedication in our appearance, punctuality, and performance.

Besides cage fighting, North Texas MMA also maintains a strong children’s and adult presence at BJJ and grappling tournaments.  Our BJJ students always have a strong showing at the local Machado & NAGA tournaments, and we do well at various out of state, national and international events as well.  For details on how the team has done in the past, please check our news page.

ATTENTION FIGHT PROMOTERS...  We are training new fighters every day. We have lots of affiliated fighters of many different levels and weight classes that may not be on the website. If you need a fighter for your show please text 972-353-0770

Joe "Jitsu" Christopher is a full-time North Texas MMA professional competitor and teacher of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing and MMA.  Joe wrestled in high school, dabbled in traditional martial arts and first began training at the Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Tery Corkran in 2002.  He is currently a fourth degree brown belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Tery Corkran (www.ntmma.com), a Carlos Machado third degree black belt... Joe is a House of Pain MMA Tournament Champion, 2X Freestyle Cage Fighting Welter Weight Champion, 2X US Nationals BJJ Brown Belt Champion, 3X NAGA Advanced Class Champion and 3X Grapplers Quest Advanced Class Champion. While his home will always be NTMMA, Joe strongly believes in cross-training as a way to sharpen his skills. In the past he has studied under many instructors and learned valuable lessons from each: David Weber, Steve Tharrett, Joe Lewis, Saekson Janjira, John Lawson, TJ Sewell and all the Machado Brothers. Joe currently supplements his daily training regimen at NTMMA with Jiu-Jitsu classes under Carlos Machado in Dallas and pre-fight MMA training camps at Greg Jackson's MMA in New Mexico. On the weekends, when not competing, Joe is often found at guest instructor seminars looking for new ideas to add to his fight strategy. Joe enjoys bringing his experiences back to the gym and teaching NTMMA students the same relentless style of BJJ, Striking and MMA that he brings to his professional MMA career. He is well known by MMA promoters for his relentless & No-Holds Barred attack style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and for ending fights decisively (as of May 2010 he has submitted\TKO'd sixteen opponents for sixteen MMA victories).
